Job Summary
| The Director of Patient Care Services for Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine reports to the Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Care Services and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and integration of all services within the College’s clinical enterprises. This role ensures the efficient delivery of patient care across all CDM clinical sites, with oversight of electronic health records, clinical billing, compliance, and quality outcomes. The Director provides direct supervision of Patient Care Services Managers with indirect supervision of clinical staff and manages some HR-related activities in support of the Clinical enterprises. The position is key to enhancing the experience of patients, students, and employees through operational excellence and service integration. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to manage daily operations of a dental clinic, including coordination of services, project management, and operational efficiency across multiple clinical sites.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet and email use, and experience with dental practice management systems, and dental electronic health records,
- Understanding of dental billing, Denti-Cal billing and collections, front office procedures, and laws and regulations related to dental practice and human resources management.
- Demonstrated skills in strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving abilities, with skill in interpreting and applying clinical guidelines.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and tactfully with students, faculty, staff, and patients.
- Ability to work independently while fostering cooperative relationships in a team environment and effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Candidates with over 10 years of relevant experience in a comparable role may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of progressive healthcare management experience, ideally within a multi-provider or institutional clinic setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in overseeing clinic operations, staff management, business administration, customer service, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
- Must have extensive knowledge in Denti-Cal regulations and billing policies.
- Master’s degree in business, health administration or related degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in dental practice management and working within an academic or teaching environment involving dental students or residents is strongly preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Essential Job Duties
Clinical Operations & Workflow Management:
- With Patient Care Services Manager, oversee daily operations of the CDM Clinical enterprises including scheduling workflow, billing, materials and sterilization, and patient care systems.
- With Patient Care Services Manager, provide support to resolve patient issues and grievances.
- Participate in the development, interpretation, and revision of clinical business operational policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with Clinical Managing Partners and faculty to evaluate clinic operations and staffing needs, implementing changes as necessary to support optimal patient care and efficiency.
- Ensures adherence to standards for quality improvement, patient access, productivity, confidentiality, billing, and electronic health records.
- Reviews and updates policies and procedures to support efficient workflows and customer service.
Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring:
- Collects, organizes, and summarizes data for performance measurement and reporting.
- Monitors clinical and operational performance goals; collaborate with management to optimize staffing, scheduling, and workflows.
- Evaluates and revises clinical processes to align with policies and improve outcomes.
- Participates in annual operational budgeting process and effectively manages resources to achieve objectives within established budget parameters.
- Identifies and recommends to the Associate Dean for Patient Care Services and Clinical Education, process and productivity improvements initiatives that are designed to enhance customer satisfaction, clinical quality and operational cost-effectiveness.
Staff Leadership & Compliance:
- Indirectly supervise clinic staff and directly supervise Patient Care Services Managers.
- With Patient Care Services Managers, recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates clinical support staff.
- Ensures clinical employees receive required compliance training (infection control, HIPAA, safety drills, etc.).
Liaison & Professional Development:
- Serves as liaison for patients, faculty, students, and staff regarding clinical activities.
- Communicates effectively with the Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Care Services on clinic goals, operations, and staff concerns.
Other Duties as assigned:
- Special on special projects and other duties as assigned.

This range considers various factors in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The Expected Pay Scale is defined as the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.
